WINKEN, BLINKEN AND NOD!  Not the reindeer you know.

2 months ago, The Travers at Imire knew that Tatenda's best friend, Hogwash the warthog, had given birth to piglets but despite their best efforts, they were unable to locate the babies. Every time they discovered the burrow where Hogwash was hiding with her new family, she would move to a new burrow. For 2 months, she visited the rhino pens to find food but she came alone.

Then recently, all of a sudden, Hogwash trotted up to Shanu and Tatenda followed by 3 tiny little piglets who have been named Winken, Blinken and Nod. Shanu and Tatenda have happily accepted the new additions to their family.

We would like to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and New Year and to appeal to those of you who are spending the festive season in wildlife areas not to feed or interfere with the animals if you are lucky enough to see any.

At this time of year, it is difficult to forget the despicable behaviour of some of those who attended  the Charara New Years party 2 years ago, which resulted in the death of our big friend Tusker aka Dustbin. My son, Shane has designed a poster which hopefully will discourage any potential Charara party goers from terrorizing the animals again.

Your hosts, Don & Felicity, established 2 Off Douglas in 2002 with the aim of providing a “home away from home” to our guests, offering either total privacy, or to those guests who prefer a family atmosphere, we welcome them to join us. We enjoy creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere for our guests, thus making their stay as pleasant as possible. It is important to note that we also have a Generator in case of power failures.

2 Off Douglas is a “Highly Recommended” AA Graded establishment as well as 4-Star Rated by the Tourism Grading Council of S.A.

We are situated at the Van Buuren Off Ramp on the N3 and are, therefore, close to O.R. Tambo International Airport, freeways, Eastgate & Bedford Gardens Shopping Centres as well as numerous restaurants. We have 3 luxuriously furnished units situated on our property, which is within a road closure.

Each room has it’s own individual charm and have all been fitted with top quality beds, linen and furnishings as well as all the little extras which we feel you need to make your stay more comfortable

Milk and Game Cubes for Tatenda

18th August 2008
From Johnny Rodrigues

I recently made another trip to Johannesburg to replenish Tatenda's food supplies. I collected 500kg of games cubes and 150kg of fat free milk powder. A big thank you to Keith Maharaj and Parmalat SA (Pty) Ltd for their extremely generous donation of milk powder.

Thanks very much to Don and Felicity Hornsby who treated me to free accommodation in their stunning 4 star guest house which is called "2 off Douglas".

I normally have to "rough it" on these food runs so this was a very nice surprise. I highly recommend 2 off Douglas which comprises a guest house (bed and breakfast) and a mini conference centre.

For anyone wishing to stop off in Joburg for the night in style, please call Don or Felicity on 011 4551830 or email them at felicity@20ffdouglas.co.za or go into their website, www.2offdouglas.co.za.

Hogwash & Tatenda

Judy Travers and Tatenda

Tatenda and Johnny with food. "We delivered the milk and game cubes to Imire last Sunday and Hogwash the warthog booked his bag of game cubes as soon as we offloaded them."
Tsotsi the hyena and Ginger Tsotsi and Ginger in the Veld
We were amazed at how big Tsotsi, the hyena has grown since the last time we saw him. We took several photos of him but he refused to leave the house so the photos are too dark, however, John and Judy sent us some recent photos of him. It seems he has developed a friendship with their ginger cat.
